Greenland pilot rules and associated regulations

According to Greenland Pilot Act No. 1698 of 11th December 2015, it is mandatory for all passenger ships with more than 250 passengers onboard, to use a pilot when sailing within the Greenlandic National waters.

Furthermore it is mandatory for all vessels to draft a risk assessment and contingency plan for the voyage.

Procedures for Self-sustainability during an emergency is mandatory because of remote areas with low SAR facilities. For vessels with more than 250 passengers onboard it is mandatory to draft co-operation plans with the local SAR authorities.

The vessel master and shipping company have to document that assistance from other vessels or SAR facilities is reachable within a reasonable time-frame, when carrying out the voyage plan.
